When I find something that I love I share it with everyone. And right now, I cannot say enough good things about my foundation!! I have NEVER liked wearing foundation. I have never liked the way it felt on my skin…heavy and mask-like. I also have very oily skin and I could never find one that felt great & also minimized my oiliness. Many foundations by the end of the day have me shining like crazy!! What I’ve used the for the past 10 years has been a pressed powder foundation and I thought I loved it until I gave this foundation a try. Now I won’t go a day without this foundation (except to the gym…I don’t waste it for the gym). It controls my shine which means less touch ups throughout the day. It also covers up my skin imperfections, sun spots, evens out my skin tone and looks amazing all day.
So here is what I love most about this foundation:
It contains only vegetable oils, pure waxes, and FDA approved colors.
It does not contain any animal product ingredients, perfume, lanolin, petroleum, or mineral oil. Animal product ingredients and perfumes can cause allergic reactions on some skins. Lanolin, petroleum and mineral oil are not absorbed by the skin, causing excess oiliness on the surface.
This foundation is healthy for the skin, will never clog pores, and has cured facial acne for many users.
Most commercial liquid foundations have a ratio of about 18 to 23 percent of pigment to the liquid. This foundation has at least 50% pigments to waxes and oils so that a very little bit goes a long way.
It lasts better throughout a long day than comparable commercial foundations and requires less touch-ups.
If you’ve tried many different foundations and you’ve never found one that you love, I’d love for you to give this one a try and then let me know what you think. I know you will love it as much as I do.
The way you wear your makeup when you are over 40 should not be the same way you wore it in your 20’s. As we age, our skin is typically not as smooth as it was when we were younger. We often have fine lines and wrinkles and our features change as well. Makeup is a great tool to hide what you may not like and accentuate what you do. You can follow some basic tips to always look your best.
Here are 6 essential makeup tips for women over 40:
Amp up your lashes – As we grow older our eyelashes often become shorter and thinner so use a mascara that adds length and volume. You might also want to choose a black mascara as this will highlight the whites of your eyes more than a brown mascara will. If you have dark under eye circles, you may want to skip putting mascara on your bottom lashes as this will only accentuate your dark circles and highlight crow’s feet.
Use a creamy concealer – Dark under eye circles are common as we age. Choose a creamy concealer that will not only cover those dark circles but will also not settle into fine lines and wrinkles. If you are wearing a foundation or face powder, choose your color wisely. A foundation color that is paler than your natural skin tone will exaggerates fine lines. Go a little bit warmer with your foundation color. Choosing a foundation with light-reflective particles creates the appearance of glowing skin. And make sure you do not go heavy on the foundation as thick, heavy foundation will settle into those fine lines and wrinkles…aging you even more.
Don’t use dark eyeliner – Instead of wearing black eyeliner, choose a brown or grey liner. These shades will not accentuate wrinkles & will actually make your eyes appear larger. You may want to avoid using liner on your bottom lashes if you have dark under eye circles as this exaggerates their appearance.
Avoid dark lip colors – As we get older, our lips tend to get thinner and wearing dark, bright or metallic lip colors will only make them appear thinner. Choose a neutral rose lip color. Switching from a lipstick to a sheer, colored lip gloss can make your lips appear fuller too.
Don’t forget your eyebrows – Eyebrows that are plucked, trimmed & shaped correctly, can rejuvenate a face. To cover the empty spaces (you guessed it, our eyebrows thin down as we age too), I recommend using a highly pigmented eye shadow with an angled eyeliner brush. Choose an eye shadow shade that is 2 shades darker than your natural hair color. Use a clean mascara wand brush to gently brush your brows and shape them. Then keep them in place with an eyebrow gel.
Use a blush in a natural shade – As we age, our skin tends to have a more reddish color so you may want to stay away from red, brown and pink blushes. Choose a peach or more natural looking blush color. Adding a bronzer just under your cheekbones is a great way to add a healthy glow & contour at the same time.
Less is more when it comes to make up in my opinion no matter your age. The photo above is me. I will be 44 in December. In the photo on the left my lips appear thinner (dark lip color). My eyes appear smaller on the left. I have a healthier glow on the right. What do you think? Do you see a difference? I like my makeup to be natural looking and accentuate my features while diminishing fine lines, wrinkles and areas that I may not love. We many not love what age does to our skin and face but I love that we can slow down the aging process with natural anti-aging skincare and use makeup to help minimize areas and accentuate others. We can fake the appearance of youthful skin just a little.
As a busy baseball mom & someone who loves makeup, I’ve come up with a 5 minute makeup routine that is perfect for busy baseball moms. I know many moms who don’t wear makeup every day but for those of us that do, this post is for you. Or maybe it is for the moms who don’t wear makeup because they think they don’t have the time or the knowledge. This is super simple!! It will accentuate your best features and have you looking and feeling amazing.
Start with your favorite baseball cap and if you have long hair, throw your hair into a pony tail to stay cooler. A baseball cap is essential for keeping the sun out of your face.
Next, I’d apply a good moisturizer with sunscreen to your face. If you use foundation, that’s another great way to block the harmful suns rays. A good foundation will also withstand sweat and humidity. I have super oily skin and when I am out in the humid Indiana summer temps, I get oily. I’ve found a great foundation that helps eliminate this oil and looks great all day. You can check it out here.
Now you can apply a translucent powder or pressed powder (with or without foundation as this will help even out your skin tone & set your foundation). Apply a bronzer just under your cheekbones to make those cheekbones pop. By doing this, it will actually make your face appear a bit thinner & it will give you a sunkissed glow as well. You can also apply the bronzer just under your jawline and on either side of your nose. Apply your blush on your cheekbones…nothing to bright. Pick a color that looks natural.
Apply a few coats of mascara. I am super picky about my mascara. I’m not a fan of lashes that look like spider legs or that are all clumpy. I want my lashes to be thicker and longer but still look natural.
Your final step, is an SPF lip balm and some lip gloss. I prefer something with a little bit of color but nothing too bright. It’s important to choose lip products that don’t contain harmful ingredients as this will be something that is on your lips. I love these fun lip glosses. Their ingredients are amazing, they don’t feel sticky like some lip glosses and they are super cute and functional. There is a mirror on the side of the tube…perfect for reapplying at the baseball field.
I always suggest checking out the ingredients of you skincare and makeup. You want to use the most natural products you can because it takes less than a minute for chemicals in your skincare and makeup to enter your blood stream.
Let me start by saying, “I’ve never chosen a WORD for the year before”. I have however, seen many of my fellow mompreneurs talking about how they have a “word for the year“. The idea intrigued me because it’s like you are giving your year a main FOCUS. So I started thinking about what I wanted to focus on in 2016 and I noticed lately that I was drawn to the word “JOY“. I realized I had décor with that word in it and I was sharing posts on social media with that word it in. So, let me tell you why I chose this word for 2016.
Let’s start with the definition. JOY is defined as “a feeling of great pleasure or happiness“. I’ve also seen quotes describing JOY as “what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.” ~ Marianne Williamson
2015 was an amazing year for myself & my family. I feel like it was a pivotal year for me. I regained my confidence. I figured out who I really am and what I stand for. I figured out my place in this big ol’ world. I also figured out what doesn’t bring me JOY but instead brings me stress, tears, a bad attitude & just makes me grumpy. I decided that in 2016, I wanted to remove what I can in my life that doesn’t bring me JOY. This may be people, activities, volunteer work, business, etc. If it doesn’t bring me “a feeling of great pleasure or happiness”, then it must go!! Let’s be honest! Life is too short to be anything but happy. Right?! If there is something (or someone) in my life that I can let it go and it will bring more happiness into my life, then it MUST GO!! Everything I purposely do in 2016 will be done in JOY. I want to be a JOY to others. I want to wake up with JOY in my heart and go to bed feeling like I made a difference in the world. I want to tackle situations that could cause me stress or tears with JOY instead. I want to always look on the bright side of things. There’s always a reason for everything in my life…the good and the bad. And no matter what, there is always something good in every situation or at least I like to think there is. I could spend my days being stressed out about all of my daily tasks as a Mom of 4 or all of my duties as a PTO president. Or I can choose to look at the JOYS because of these tasks and duties. I have to do laundry because my family has clothes to wear. I have to cook because I have 6 mouths to feed. I have to clean because I have a beautiful house. I have to plan school events because I want to make a difference in the lives of our students and their families. There’s always a JOY in everything if you just take a closer look. For me, even death has a JOY…being with our heavenly Father surrounded by family & friends in Heaven. Don’t get me wrong, death is sad but I see the flip side. Heaven is a JOY of death.
I could go on and on about JOY but I won’t. It’s MY word for 2016. I think by searching for the JOYS in life, I will have a much happier and less stressful year in 2016. It will get me through the rough, stressful days with deadlines & endless loads of laundry. It will also bring great pleasure and happiness into my life because I have a choice to see things from a more positive perspective and I have a choice of what and whom I let be a part of my life. Now, maybe you are thinking about your word for 2016 and what you want this year to be about for you. Maybe you already have a word of the year chosen. I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to “comment” below or drop me an email at email@example.com. Let’s cheer each other on in 2016 and let our words lead us!
I’ve always been someone who wears makeup, does her hair and tries to look presentable in public. People have often made me feel like this was just “too much” or “who am I trying to impress”. Until a few months ago, I never really thought much about WHY I do it. I have always wanted to look my best. Even when I’m just staying at home all day, I will do my hair and makeup. Lately, I’ve realized that my confidence level is so much higher than ever before. I feel comfortable in my own skin and I know that it has a lot to do with what I see in the mirror. I don’t go out with my hair curled and my makeup on to impress anyone. I do it for ME!!
When my hair is curled, I feel a little sassier & happier. My curls give me a little pep in my step and a bigger smile on my face. And now that I’m more confident in my makeup application (thanks to my newest endeavor), I have realized I’m more outgoing & more talkative and open with people and I know it’s because I feel good about my appearance. If I have a day when I don’t wear makeup (which rarely happens) or I pull my hair back in a ponytail, I just don’t feel like I get as much accomplished. I’m definitely not out and about talking it up with others as much & I just don’t feel as good about myself.
Please understand this…I don’t think anyone’s confidence in themselves is based on appearance alone. I just know that for me personally, I feel more confident when I feel good about how I look. If you are confident without makeup & with your hair in a ponytail, then rock it!! My point to writing this is to share why I always try to look my best. To explain to those who don’t get it, why I always have makeup on or my hair done. You don’t have to agree!
When I look in the mirror and I see those beautiful curls, my big brown eyes and those beautiful lashes, chiseled cheekbones and a pretty lipstick…I feel confidence! I’m not trying to impress anyone. I just feel better about me when I’m put together. I just feel happier and smile more these days. I am loving how I feel. I love it when people compliment me on how nice I look sure…but I’m not going out every day looking for compliments. I want others to feel the same way I do…comfortable, confident and happy in my own skin. Far too many women are not confident with what they see in the mirror, but they can be. If a little makeup and some curls makes us feel better about ourselves, what’s wrong with that? A world with women who love themselves & feel good about themselves…that’s my mission. Sure I could stand to lose a few pounds (ok 30). I could have whiter teeth and fewer wrinkles. I have one eye smaller than the other and etc. etc. but I know that when I feel I look my best, I give the world the best version of me. Trust me, the world appreciates me more with a little makeup & curls! 😉
And for the record, I teach my 7 year old daughter that she is beautiful without makeup and that Mommy wears it because it just makes me feel prettier and that’s the truth. I see makeup as a way to enhance our “natural” beauty.
I’m so excited to share with you a new company that I’ve come across that is offering clean makeup! I’ve searched for a cosmetic line that offered only the good stuff and none of the toxins and chemicals we find in most cosmetics and I have finally found one that gets two thumbs up from me!
So this makeup line is the genius of Tyra Banks. You know the supermodel & recent Harvard Business School grad? It turns out she is a brilliant business women who has created a cosmetic line called Tyra Beauty. This is a direct sales company that has enlisted the help of direct sales reps also known as BeautyTainers. The compensation plan for Tyra Beauty is one of the best I’ve seen. Each BeautyTainer earns a 25% discount on product purchases, plus bonuses, commission & there is even a chance to earn a trip to L.A. to meet Tyra, have dinner with her & even appear on Tyra Bank’s show.
Now let’s get down to the real question, how’s the makeup? I’m going to be honest, I loved it! Tyra has developed what she calls a Tyover which is basically a simple & quick makeover centered around highlighting and contouring. The 2 Minute Tyover includes a Sculpt in a Stick (contouring) and Light in a Stick (highlighting). There is also a 4 Minute Tyover and a 6 Minute Tyover that also include the contouring and highlighting sticks. Now if you’ve never done any contouring and highlighting with your makeup, I suggest you give it a try. I’d never done it before either because it just looked too complicated. With this system though, it’s in stick form so there’s no brushes requied. It’s just a few quick swipes and some blending and your done! You can make your nose appear thinner or minimize a large forehead. How about making yourself look a bit thinner? Who doesn’t want that? Take a look at my pictures below. The one on the left is me before with my regular makeup on and the picture on the right is with the Tyra Beauty makeup. Do you notice how much thinner my face looks with the contouring and highlighting?
Tyra Beauty offers an amazing line of clean cosmetics including the highlighting and contouring stick set, cheeck color, lipstick, eye color, eye liner, liquid eyeliner with a corrector end and even an amazing brow pen that mimicks the appearance of actually hair. I will be doing more tutorials and reviews of these amazing products. I like how easy they make makeup application. There are no brushes needed. You simply swipe it on and blend it and off you go. Anyone can do this! If you would like more information about the products, how to order or would like more info about the business opportunity, take a look at this website http://bit.ly/1fuSDMY.
If you’ve tried this these products, I’d love to hear what you think. Feel free to leave a comment below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
