Confessions of an Amazon Addict

So, I have a confession…I am an Amazon addict! I may actually be keeping them in business.  It’s true! I buy anything and everything on Amazon. And because of Amazon, I can’t stand to purchase something from any other online store because it takes longer than 2 days to arrive at my door.  I want it NOW! It just so happens, that I can order certain items on Amazon and get them delivered that same day and even within 2 hours.  Shut up!! There may have been a time this past winter, when I ordered something on Amazon with same day shipping because I didn’t want to go out in the cold.  Yes! I have a problem and I do not want help with it!

Tips Every Amazon Shopper needs to know.

Because I’m an Amazon addict, I know a few tricks and tips that I thought I’d share with those of you who haven’t hit “addict” status yet.

Did you know?

  • If you “Subscribe & Save” feature when ordering, it gives you a 15% discount on the items you purchase the most & it ships for free at your requested frequency.  You can of course cancel this at any time.
  • There is a Coupon Page that you can use to clip coupons online to save even more. All you do is clip the coupon and it will automatically be applied when you check out. There are even exclusive coupons for Prime Members only!
  • Students can sign up for an Amazon Student Prime account and get a 6 month free trial.  Then after 6 months, they can enroll for only $49 per year…that’s a 50% savings.

My Spring 2016 Favorite Fitness Finds

Well, I did it! After 7 years, I finally stepped foot in gym today. It felt good and even though I was a bit nervous because I’ve not been committed to working out as of lately, I’m proud of myself! I didn’t give up! I pushed through and completed the strength training workout without passing out or throwing up. 🙂 Ha Ha (Kidding, not kidding)

Screenshot_2016-04-12-09-07-06-1

As a Mom of 4, a PTO President, blogger and a home-based business owner, for me working out has always been just one more thing on my plate every day.  I knew it was important and that I should be fitting it into my daily routine but it was just easier to skip the workouts.  I’ll ride my bike with the kids occasionally or go for a walk or play catch but that’s it for any form of physical activity. Over the years, I’ve purchased so many workout dvd’s and I’ll do them for a bit but I never stick with activity.  My husband has been going to the gym I went to today for the past 5 years or so and he’s always encouraged me to go but until today, I just wasn’t mentally ready. A friend recently joined and also encouraged me to join her.  So, finally I realized it was time! I have this image in my head of what my ideal body will look like.  Now it’s time to do the work.  I’m a pretty determined person and for the most part whatever I set my mind to do, I accomplish.  So, while this will be super challenging it will also be super rewarding and I’m really looking forward to a rockin’ body and feeling amazing!

As I headed back to the gym today, I took with me 4 of my new favorite fitness finds & I thought I’d share them with you.

(1) Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32 shoes

Screenshot_2016-04-12-14-29-18-1

I’m normally not a fan of Nike shoes.  Maybe it’s just because I never found the right shoe for me because these feel amazing on.  My favorite walking shoes are my Hoka’s but these are great for my HIIT classes and strength training classes.  They have some really good cushioning and they are lightweight.  For Nikes, these are pretty amazing!

(2) Thorlo Socks

I discovered these socks a year or so ago and I love them! They have some really good cushion for your foot and are super soft.  They have extra padding on the ball and heel area as well as an Achilles tendon pad.

(3) Fitbit Blaze Fitness Watch

I’ve always been a fan of Fitbit Fitness trackers.  I have purchased the first 2 that came out and recently bought this one because I wanted something to track my heart rate for my HIIT workouts. This Fitbit is obviously a bit larger then the other Fitbits.  It resembles an Apple or Galaxy watch. The band comes in 3 colors…black, blue and plum.  You can easily change out the watch bands too.  It tracks steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed and active minutes.  It also has a heart rate monitoring system that can track your heart rate all day or when you want it to.  There is even GPS available for mapping your fitness routes.

(4) Hint Premium Essance Water or Hint Kick Essance Water

Screenshot_2016-04-12-14-45-13-1

This water is naturally flavored with no artificial sweeteners, sugara, dyes or chemicals. It’s preservative free, vegan and gluten free and is made from non-GMO plants.  What I love about this water is that it has a great fruity flavor without the nasty aftertaste that you get with some fruit flavored waters. The Hint Kick contains caffeine from coffee beans and is great when you need a little pick-me up!

Whether your like me and returning to the gym after a hiatus or you are a gym rat, I hope you find my favorite fitness finds helpful.  If you try them, I’d love to hear what you think.  Please feel free to share your comments below. I’m always on the hunt for great new finds so please feel free to share.

Have a happy, healthy day!

10 Spring break beach “must haves”

Here in the Midwest these days, spring break is a big week for many of us to get away from the cold temps & enjoy some much needed fun in the sun.  When I was a kid, we didn’t travel anywhere for spring break but these days, everyone seems to migrate south.

For the past 6 years, my family and I have been traveling to Florida for spring break.  We’ve visited Orlando, Fort Meyers, Siesta Keys, Tampa, Sanibel and Captiva.  For the past 3 years, our vacation spot has been Captiva.  We LOVE it there!! It’s just fun in the sun & relaxing with friends and family.  It’s MY kind of vacation.

image

It’s taken me 6 years of traveling to the beaches with my 4 kiddos to finally compile my list of “must haves” when it comes to beach fun.  So here are my 10 spring break  beach “must haves”…

1. Sunscreen Lip Balm ~ There is nothing worse then sun burnt lips.  Trust me! Find a lip balm with at least 25 spf and re-apply it often when out in the sun.  Sun Bum is one of my favorites!

image

2. Sunscreen ~ Do I even have to tell you WHY this is a must? Anyone who’s been to Florida knows how hot that sun gets.  I have used the spray sunscreens and while those are way more convenient than the “old school” lotion type, I’ve found that the sprays don’t always give you the best coverage.  Sun Bum again is one of my faves! It smells like the sunscreen from when I was a kid too! I recommend at least a 50 spf and re-apply often!

image

3. A floppy hat ~ Once again that sun is HOT! Have a hat to keep that sun off of your face not only helps prevent over-burnt noses and ears but it will help prevent sun damage too.

image

4. Baby powder ~ This is the BEST trick ever if you have kids! Sprinkle a little baby powder on sandy hands and feet and then wipe the sand right off.  It’s almost magical!

image

5. Secret Browning Formula ~ I just discovered this little secret last year thanks to friend.  It comes in an oil or a lotion and is meant to be used with your sunscreen.  It seriously does help give your skin a nice golden brown tan.

image

6. Ziploc bag for your smart phone ~ I’ve never used this trick but I will definitely be giving this a try this year.  Why didn’t I think of this? No more sandy smart phones! Slip your smart phone in a ziploc bag and protect it from sand & water and you can use your phone right through the bag.

image

7. Black Tea Bags ~ This trick REALLY does work so pack some black tea bags in your bag! I tried this last summer when I got a bit burnt at a baseball game.  Simply brew some strong black tea and let it cool…add ice if you need relief fast.  When you get a nasty sunburn, dip a paper towel in the tea and dab it on your sunburn.  You will feel immediate pain relief.  Repeat often to speed up your sunburn recovery.  You will thank me for this one! 😉

image

8. Sunscreen Stick ~ I always carry a sunscreen stick with me for my kids to use on their cheeks, noses, and ears.  I find that this just stays on better through the swimming and constant wiping of the eyes.

image

9. Sea Salt Spray ~ The hot humid weather of Florida makes my usually straight styled hair, anything but straight.  So, I suggest you just go with it and get yourself some sea salt spray or make your own.  Pinterest has recipes for making your own sea salt spray.  Spray it in freshly combed damp hair and scrunch.  Get those gorgeous beachy waves.  For even better results, try spraying your hair and french braiding it before bed.  In the morning, you will have waves that will last!

image

10. A good beach read ~ I don’t know about you but when I’m vacationing on the beach, I’m not interested in ready my usual reads.  I want something a little romantic, fun and carefree to read.  Lucky for me, I have a friend who shares her favorite beach reads with me.

image

So there is my list of “must haves” for my spring break vacation at the beach.  I don’t need to tell you to bring your sunglasses…that’s a given! Bring several pairs and shoes too!! Do you have a great beach tip or trick to share? I’d love to hear it! Please feel free to comment below or email me at happycleanlife@gmail.com.

Have a happy healthy day!

A few of my favorite things…

Hi! So I’ve not been very consistent with my posts lately I know.  I have to get better! You could say life gets in the way but it really doesn’t take long to sit down and bust out a post, so I will save you the details of my crazy life as a Mama of 4 who has taken on the task of PTO president at my 2 youngest’s elementary school.  It’s like having a part time job that I don’t get paid for.   Well I get paid in all sorts of other ways, just not in money. 🙂 Anyway, on to today’s topic…

I thought I’d share some of my favorite things with you.  These are items I’m obsessed with and use daily. I’m a huge fan of natural and organic products.  In fact, I’m going to be making my own  whipped body butter this week.  I’m super excited about this!! The ingredients will be natural and organic and SO good for my dry winter skin.  I may even end up selling these yummy body butters.  I’m starting with a white chocolate peppermint and a orange creamsicle one too.  These will be good enough to eat! Which you actually could eat but I wouldn’t advise you do so…might not be as tasty as they smell!

So, here are my favorite things:

image

Burt’s Bees Lip Shine in Whisper: I’ve always been obsessed with lip gloss but until I discovered this one, I didn’t know what I was missing. No more sticky lips and no more toxins either.

USA Tervis Tumbler: I love my Tervis tumblers.  I think we have at least 12 in our cabinet.  This one is my favorite though because it’s 24 ounces so I’m not refilling it as much.  I always have water with me…ALWAYS! Everywhere I go my water goes with me.  My goal is to drink half of my body weight in ounces every day.  If you aren’t drinking your water, shame on you!! Get up and fill up a cup now and start sipping!

Gud products by Burt’s Bees: I use the shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion.  I love the way they smell and that they are made with natural ingredients.  They work great and leave my hair feeling super soft and shiny.  The lotion is not too heavy like some lotions.  I keep this by my bed and apply it every night for super soft hands.

EOS Lip Balm: I have several of these…in my kitchen, my tote bag, my bedroom, my bathroom, etc.  These are my fave for keeping away those winter chapped lips.  They have so many fun colors and flavors.  They come out with new flavors all the time.  They also have lotion and shave cream.  I’ve tried the lotion but I had no idea about the shave cream until I went to their website.  I must try!!

Nutty Caramel Cashew IsaLean Bar by Isagenix: Ok…seriously these are the BEST bar I’ve ever had! They are delicious and so satisifying…the perfect balance of sweet and savory.  They are low glycemic, gluten free, all  natural and organic.  As if that shouldn’t be enough to convince you to try these, they also contain 18g of protein and 6 g of fiber.  Did I mention how delicious they are? 🙂 These are meal replacement bars, which means they are complete nutrition bars to have for a meal.  They are perfect when I’m on the go or out and about during lunchtime.  I like to have half for a snack when I’m having a sweet craving.  At less than $3 a bar, I buy these at 8 boxes at a time! You can order here…michellepittman4.isagenix.com

So there you have it! My list of favorites “must have” products that are always with me or close by.  Do you have a favorite product to share? I’d love to hear about it…especially if it’s something all natural and organic. 🙂

I hope your Monday was amazing!!

Healthy, Natural “Must Try” Favorite Finds

GREENS

“Must Have” Favorite Finds

(1) My first favorite find this week is Chocolate Greens.  I have 4 kiddos who don’t eat their daily fruits and veggies. Who am I kidding…neither do I unless I supplement! 😉 This is a great tasting (seriously just ask my kids) way for my kids to get the nutrients their little bodies need. We mix it in milk and it tastes just like chocolate milk. It’s made with 100% natural cocoa powder, contains more than 50 super foods and no sugar as it’s sweetened with Stevia leaf extract.  Keep the germs at bay by drinking this daily to give your body the nutrition it needs to perform at it’s very best! Even my pickiest eater loves it! I highly recommend this one!!

(2) my next favorite find this week is Kombucha Green Tea.  This tea not only tastes great but is also great for you. It has a blend of spearmint, lemongrass and plum flavors which come together in this light fruity tea. It’s 100% organic and non-gmo. This tea is great for supporting your immune system, supplying antioxidants and supports digestion. One of my favorite things about Yogi brand teas (besides the fact that they are organic and non-gmo) is the cute little inspirations they have on their tea bag tags. They just brighten anyone’s day!

Healthy, Natural "Must Have" Favorite Finds

(3) My last favorite find to share this week is Burt’s Bees Res Q Ointment. This stuff is amazing! Not only does is smell yummy (if you like lavender) but it’s great for so many skin ailments. You can use it on bug bites, burns, skin rashes, and much more. Its great for those winter chapped hands too. Just a little goes a long way so this little pot will last a long time.
