Living a “happy clean life” involves far more than just living a healthy lifestyle. The “happy” part should include whatever makes you happy…a hobby, reading, fitness, hanging out with friends, etc. I have far too many hobbies but one of my favorite hobbies is taking furniture, repainting it and repurposing it. I’ve painted every antique piece of furniture I own and even purchased a few pieces plus some other miscellaneous pieces and repainted them using chalk paint. I love using chalk paint! I love how mistake-proof it is. My 2 youngest kiddos can even help me with my projects. The paint dries quickly and a little goes a long way. I can’t believe what a coat of paint can do for a piece of furniture. I’ve always got my eye out for unique, fun pieces that I can paint and repurpose.
Here is my latest project that took us about 2 hours to complete…super fast & easy! A few of my projects have taken much longer but I like the ones I can finish in just a few hours. I found this piece at an estate sale and new as soon as I saw it, that I needed to have it! It’s an antique wash stand. It’s not in perfect condition, but for $50 it was perfect for me! I had no idea what I was going to do with it but I knew I had to have it. My Mom had one that was much larger when I was growing up and I’ve always loved it.
I have a friend who shares my love for chalk paint too and she mentioned that she just made a coffee bar out of something she had purchased to repurpose. At the time, I thought “I don’t need a coffee bar, I have plenty of counter space.” However, my cabinet space was running low and that got me thinking that I could use this as a coffee bar and store all of my coffee mugs (I have a bit of an obession with cups and mugs) and then I’d have more cabinet space for cups and glasses…not to mention more counter space with my Keurig off the counter. So, I started looking on Pinterest which is where I find all of my inspiration and decided a coffee bar would be very practical for us & of course super cute!
I had recently purchased a small jar of chalk paint at Hobby Lobby for another project that I no longer had because my husband accidentally ran over it. It was an old bench that needed a fresh coat of paint. Anyway, I loved the color and to save a trip buying more paint, we decided to go for it. My 6 year old daughter and 9 year old son helped. It took less than 2 hours to paint it and wax it. I made a quick trip to Hobby Lobby for some new handles and a cute coffee picture. I had been to neighborhood garage sales earlier in the day and found several wire baskets for $3. I had no idea at the time what I’d use them for but I knew for that price I had to have them because I also have a love for organization. They were perfect for organzing our K-cups! Now instead of them being thrown in a small tote, I can see what I have and I don’t have to go hunting anymore.
This project turned out cuter than I could have imagined! I LOVE it!! Now on to the next project!
