10 Habits to Live a Happy Life

I believe living a happy life is a choice…

There is so much going on in the world and negativity screams at us from our tvs, radios, cell phones and computers.  Social media has really changed our levels of anxiety, stress, and even happiness.  How many times have you been on social media and seen someone posting [bragging] about something? I know for women, we often fall into the comparison game.  We compare out lives to the lives of those on social media and around us.  We must realize that those “glamorous” lives we see on social media, are not all that perfect, happy or wonderful.  We all have good days and bad days.  We all deal with the same situations, disappointments, highs, lows, stresses, and etc. Some just choose to only show the good.  I guess it’s better than those who turn to social media to only complain about everything in life.

But seriously, social media can make us miserable.  It can really exaggerate life.  You have to learn to tune it all out. You have to know that being happy is a choice.  You can choose to be happy no matter what life throws at you, what you see on social media, hear on the radio, read in the newspaper or see on tv.  I think of myself as a happy person [thus the name of my blog].  I’d like to share with you a list of 10 habits I do that inspire me to live a happier life.

Happy Life

  1. Pray ~ I give it all to God.  I pray about everything.  I trust in Him & I have faith in His plan.  No matter what life throws at me, I trust that it’s all a part of God’s plan.
  2. Move your Body ~ I’ve been working out regularly for about 3 months now and I feel so much better.  I like what I see in the mirror which has given me added confidence.  My body can do things I never dreamed I would be able to do. I have met knew people and created lasting friendships because of a common interest.
  3. Eat Healthy ~ I have learned that eating healthier choices makes you feel so much better.  I do have days when I might have a cheat but for the most part, I eat healthy foods.  I try to eat organic and natural. And I drink plenty of water daily [half of my body weight in ounces].
  4. Ignore Negativity ~ People who feed on negativity bring me down to a place I don’t like to be.  It’s really hard for me to not let negative energy and thoughts get to me.  So, I’ve learned that I just have to separate myself from negativity.  If someone in my life is negative and just zaps the life right out of me, I’m moving on and pushing them out.  I just can’t do it!
  5. Laugh ~ I laugh a lot! My kids make me laugh. My husband makes me laugh.  My friends make me laugh.  Heck, some days I laugh at myself.  I have a bit of a sarcastic side…
  6. Listen More ~ When you listen to what people are saying and I mean truly listen to them, you become a much better friend to them.  They will appreciate you more.  So many people want to talk, talk, talk and never listen.  Just listen to what those around you have to say.  Also, I’ve learned that in certain situations, it’s best to just not say anything.
  7. Do What You Love ~ Find what really makes you excited & happy to be alive.  Take that passion and run with it.  Because our “work” takes up most of our lives, you must love what you do and if you don’t, maybe it’s time for a change.
  8. Read ~ Reading is what keeps me going in a positive direction.  I love to read books centered around personal development.  If I find myself in a slump or in a place where I maybe don’t feel so positive about things, it’s usually because I’ve not been reading. I do enjoy reading books for fun too but personal development is what I typically read these days.
  9. Breath Fresh Air ~ Get outside and soak up the Vitamin D [but don’t forget the sunscreen]. Take a walk. Breath the fresh air. Feel the sun on your skin. It does the body and soul good!
  10. Live Fearlessly ~ Don’t let your fears hold you back in life.  No one wants to look back on life and say they wish they would have done this or tried that but didn’t because they were too afraid.  I’ve done many things in my life that scared the crap out of me but in the end those things ended up being the best thing for me. I’m not talking about skydiving or anything like that [although that is on my bucket list]. I’m talking about life decisions…switching careers, moving out of state, walking away from an unhealthy relationship, going back to school, etc.

I truly believe that being happy in life is a choice that we make.  If you’re not living your happiest life, then maybe it’s time to make some changes.  You deserve to be happy.

Happy Life

Have a happy, healthy day!!

My Spring 2016 Favorite Fitness Finds

Well, I did it! After 7 years, I finally stepped foot in gym today. It felt good and even though I was a bit nervous because I’ve not been committed to working out as of lately, I’m proud of myself! I didn’t give up! I pushed through and completed the strength training workout without passing out or throwing up. 🙂 Ha Ha (Kidding, not kidding)

As a Mom of 4, a PTO President, blogger and a home-based business owner, for me working out has always been just one more thing on my plate every day.  I knew it was important and that I should be fitting it into my daily routine but it was just easier to skip the workouts.  I’ll ride my bike with the kids occasionally or go for a walk or play catch but that’s it for any form of physical activity. Over the years, I’ve purchased so many workout dvd’s and I’ll do them for a bit but I never stick with activity.  My husband has been going to the gym I went to today for the past 5 years or so and he’s always encouraged me to go but until today, I just wasn’t mentally ready. A friend recently joined and also encouraged me to join her.  So, finally I realized it was time! I have this image in my head of what my ideal body will look like.  Now it’s time to do the work.  I’m a pretty determined person and for the most part whatever I set my mind to do, I accomplish.  So, while this will be super challenging it will also be super rewarding and I’m really looking forward to a rockin’ body and feeling amazing!

As I headed back to the gym today, I took with me 4 of my new favorite fitness finds & I thought I’d share them with you.

(1) Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32 shoes

I’m normally not a fan of Nike shoes.  Maybe it’s just because I never found the right shoe for me because these feel amazing on.  My favorite walking shoes are my Hoka’s but these are great for my HIIT classes and strength training classes.  They have some really good cushioning and they are lightweight.  For Nikes, these are pretty amazing!

(2) Thorlo Socks

I discovered these socks a year or so ago and I love them! They have some really good cushion for your foot and are super soft.  They have extra padding on the ball and heel area as well as an Achilles tendon pad.

(3) Fitbit Blaze Fitness Watch

I’ve always been a fan of Fitbit Fitness trackers.  I have purchased the first 2 that came out and recently bought this one because I wanted something to track my heart rate for my HIIT workouts. This Fitbit is obviously a bit larger then the other Fitbits.  It resembles an Apple or Galaxy watch. The band comes in 3 colors…black, blue and plum.  You can easily change out the watch bands too.  It tracks steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed and active minutes.  It also has a heart rate monitoring system that can track your heart rate all day or when you want it to.  There is even GPS available for mapping your fitness routes.

(4) Hint Premium Essance Water or Hint Kick Essance Water

This water is naturally flavored with no artificial sweeteners, sugara, dyes or chemicals. It’s preservative free, vegan and gluten free and is made from non-GMO plants.  What I love about this water is that it has a great fruity flavor without the nasty aftertaste that you get with some fruit flavored waters. The Hint Kick contains caffeine from coffee beans and is great when you need a little pick-me up!

Whether your like me and returning to the gym after a hiatus or you are a gym rat, I hope you find my favorite fitness finds helpful.  If you try them, I’d love to hear what you think.  Please feel free to share your comments below. I’m always on the hunt for great new finds so please feel free to share.

Have a happy, healthy day!

Why I Chose This Word for 2016

Let me start by saying, “I’ve never chosen a WORD for the year before”.  I have however, seen many of my fellow mompreneurs talking about how they have a “word for the year“.  The idea intrigued me because it’s like you are giving your year a main FOCUS.  So I started thinking about what I wanted to focus on in 2016 and I noticed lately that I was drawn to the word “JOY“. I realized I had décor with that word in it and I was sharing posts on social media with that word it in.  So, let me tell you why I chose this word for 2016.

Let’s start with the definition.  JOY is defined as “a feeling of great pleasure or happiness“. I’ve also seen quotes describing JOY as “what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.” ~ Marianne Williamson

2015 was an amazing year for myself & my family. I feel like it was a pivotal year for me.  I regained my confidence.  I figured out who I really am and what I stand for.  I figured out my place in this big ol’ world.  I also figured out what doesn’t bring me JOY but instead brings me stress, tears, a bad attitude & just makes me grumpy.  I decided that in 2016, I wanted to remove what I can in my life that doesn’t bring me JOY.  This may be people, activities, volunteer work, business, etc.  If it doesn’t bring me “a feeling of great pleasure or happiness”, then it must go!! Let’s be honest! Life is too short to be anything but happy. Right?! If there is something (or someone) in my life that I can let it go and it will bring more happiness into my life, then it MUST GO!! Everything I purposely do in 2016 will be done in JOY.  I want to be a JOY to others.  I want to wake up with JOY in my heart and go to bed feeling like I made a difference in the world.  I want to tackle situations that could cause me stress or tears with JOY instead.  I want to always look on the bright side of things.  There’s always a reason for everything in my life…the good and the bad.  And no matter what, there is always something good in every situation or at least I like to think there is.  I could spend my days being stressed out about all of my daily tasks as a Mom of 4 or all of my duties as a PTO president.  Or I can choose to look at the JOYS because of these tasks and duties.  I have to do laundry because my family has clothes to wear.  I have to cook because I have 6 mouths to feed.  I have to clean because I have a beautiful house.  I have to plan school events because I want to make a difference in the lives of our students and their families.  There’s always a JOY in everything if you just take a closer look.  For me, even death has a JOY…being with our heavenly Father surrounded by family & friends in Heaven.  Don’t get me wrong, death is sad but I see the flip side.  Heaven is a JOY of death.

I could go on and on about JOY but I won’t.  It’s MY word for 2016.  I think by searching for the JOYS in life, I will have a much happier and less stressful year in 2016. It will get me through the rough, stressful days with deadlines & endless loads of laundry. It will also bring great pleasure and happiness into my life because I have a choice to see things from a more positive perspective and I have a choice of what and whom I let be a part of my life.  Now, maybe you are thinking about your word for 2016 and what you want this year to be about for you.  Maybe you already have a word of the year chosen.  I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to “comment” below or drop me an email at happycleanlife@gmail.com.  Let’s cheer each other on in 2016 and let our words lead us!

Is your ponytail killing your confidence?

I’ve always been someone who wears makeup, does her hair and tries to look presentable in public.  People have often made me feel like this was just “too much” or “who am I trying to impress”.  Until a few months ago, I never really thought much about WHY I do it.  I have always wanted to look my best.  Even when I’m just staying at home all day, I will do my hair and makeup.  Lately, I’ve realized that my confidence level is so much higher than ever before. I feel comfortable in my own skin and I know that it has a lot to do with what I see in the mirror.  I don’t go out with my hair curled and my makeup on to impress anyone.  I do it for ME!!

When my hair is curled, I feel a little sassier & happier.  My curls give me a little pep in my step and a bigger smile on my face.  And now that I’m more confident in my makeup application (thanks to my newest endeavor), I have realized I’m more outgoing & more talkative and open with people and I know it’s because I feel good about my appearance.  If I have a day when I don’t wear makeup (which rarely happens) or I pull my hair back in a ponytail, I just don’t feel like I get as much accomplished.  I’m definitely not out and about talking it up with others as much & I just don’t feel as good about myself.

Please understand this…I don’t think anyone’s confidence in themselves is based on appearance alone.  I just know that for me personally, I feel more confident when I feel good about how I look. If you are confident without makeup & with your hair in a ponytail, then rock it!! My point to writing this is to share why I always try to look my best.  To explain to those who don’t get it, why I always have makeup on or my hair done.  You don’t have to agree!

When I look in the mirror and I see those beautiful curls, my big brown eyes and those beautiful lashes, chiseled cheekbones and a pretty lipstick…I feel confidence! I’m not trying to impress anyone.  I just feel better about me when I’m put together.  I just feel happier and smile more these days.  I am loving how I feel. I love it when people compliment me on how nice I look sure…but I’m not going out every day looking for compliments.  I want others to feel the same way I do…comfortable, confident and happy in my own skin.  Far too many women are not confident with what they see in the mirror, but they can be. If a little makeup and some curls makes us feel better about ourselves, what’s wrong with that? A world with women who love themselves & feel good about themselves…that’s my mission.  Sure I could stand to lose a few pounds (ok 30). I could have whiter teeth and fewer wrinkles. I have one eye smaller than the other and etc. etc. but I know that when I feel I look my best, I give the world the best version of me.  Trust me, the world appreciates me more with a little makeup & curls! 😉

And for the record, I teach my 7 year old daughter that she is beautiful without makeup and that Mommy wears it because it just makes me feel prettier and that’s the truth.  I see makeup as a way to enhance our “natural” beauty.

Have a happy, beautiful day!

My cute lil’ coffee bar…chalk paint makes me happy!

Living a “happy clean life” involves far more than just living a healthy lifestyle.  The “happy” part should include whatever makes you happy…a hobby, reading, fitness, hanging out with friends, etc.  I have far too many hobbies but one of my favorite hobbies is taking furniture, repainting it and repurposing it.  I’ve painted every antique piece of furniture I own and even purchased a few pieces plus some other miscellaneous pieces and repainted them using chalk paint.  I love using chalk paint! I love how mistake-proof it is.  My 2 youngest kiddos can even help me with my projects.  The paint dries quickly and a little goes a long way.  I can’t believe what a coat of paint can do for a piece of furniture.  I’ve always got my eye out for unique, fun pieces that I can paint and repurpose.

Here is my latest project that took us about 2 hours to complete…super fast & easy! A few of my projects have taken much longer but I like the ones I can finish in just a few hours.  I found this piece at an estate sale and new as soon as I saw it, that I needed to have it! It’s an antique wash stand.  It’s not in perfect condition, but for $50 it was perfect for me! I had no idea what I was going to do with it but I knew I had to have it.  My Mom had one that was much larger when I was growing up and I’ve always loved it.

I have a friend who shares my love for chalk paint too and she mentioned that she just made a coffee bar out of something she had purchased to repurpose.  At the time, I thought “I don’t need a coffee bar, I have plenty of counter space.”  However, my cabinet space was running low and that got me thinking that I could use this as a coffee bar and store all of my coffee mugs (I have a bit of an obession with cups and mugs) and then I’d have more cabinet space for cups and glasses…not to mention more counter space with my Keurig off the counter.  So, I started looking on Pinterest which is where I find all of my inspiration and decided a coffee bar would be very practical for us & of course super cute!

I store k cups and coffee in the top drawer.

I had recently purchased a small jar of chalk paint at Hobby Lobby for another project that I no longer had because my husband accidentally ran over it.  It was an old bench that needed a fresh coat of paint.  Anyway, I loved the color and to save a trip buying more paint, we decided to go for it.  My 6 year old daughter and 9 year old son helped.  It took less than 2 hours to paint it and wax it.  I made a quick trip to Hobby Lobby for some new handles and a cute coffee picture.  I had been to neighborhood garage sales earlier in the day and found several wire baskets for $3.  I had no idea at the time what I’d use them for but I knew for that price I had to have them because I also have a love for organization.  They were perfect for organzing our K-cups! Now instead of them being thrown in a small tote, I can see what I have and I don’t have to go hunting anymore.

I have room to store my coffee mugs in my drawers.
I have room to store my travel mugs and more mugs and k cups.

This project turned out cuter than I could have imagined! I LOVE it!! Now on to the next project!

What a difference some paint can make!

10 reasons you should not be skipping breakfast

Did you eat breakfast this morning? Do you often skip breakfast completely? If so, you are not alone. About 18% of males and 13% of females between the ages of  35 and 54 skip breakfast according to a study done in 2011 by the NPD market research group.

We’ve heard many, many times how important breakfast is and how it is not a meal we should be skipping.  Are you sick of hearing this? In my opinion, it needs to be shared over and over because there are still far too many people skipping breakfast. Here are a 10 reasons you shouldn’t be skipping breakfast:

1. Increase your metabolism

People who skip breakfast have a metabolic rate four to five percent below normal, which may lead to weight gain of eight pounds per year.

2. Avoid obesity

People who skip breakfast tend to choose less nutritious and convenience foods to curb their appetite and may consume more calories throughout their day. Studies show that those who skip breakfast are more likely to be over weight.

3.  Provide your body with the nutrition it needs

How can you pack in the nutrition  your body needs to function at it’s best if you are only consuming two meals a day? Guess what? You can’t!! Make sure you include protein in your breakfast to feel fuller longer and induce weight loss.

4. Give your body more energy

Food provides your body with energy.  You put gas in your car to make it go, so why wouldn’t you put food in your body to make it go? If you put nothing in, you are running on empty.

5. Avoid over-eating and binge eating

Spacing your calories out throughout your day is much better than starving and binging all day.  Don’t deprive yourself of breakfast or any other meals because you just might find yourself losing control later in the day.  It makes more sense to eat a nutritious breakfast & then enjoy a piece of your son’s birthday cake rather than skipping breakfast and being so hungry that you eat several pieces of cake.

6. Be smarter

Eating breakfast provides an energy boost to the brain so you will be more alert, more focused, have better concentration & perform at your best.

7. Be happier

Eating breakfast boosts serotonin levels which controls mood, appetite and sleep.

8.  Be healthier

Skipping breakfast can weaken your immune system.  You are more likely to get sick because you are more sensitive to germs and illnesses. It not only makes you weaker, it makes your organs and cells weak too.

9. Lower your risk of developing diabetes

Skipping breakfast and meals leads to the body’s cells becoming less sensitive to insulin. When you skip meals and your cell receptors become less sensitive to or resistant to insulin, you have excess sugar floating through your bloodstream. The body then tries to produce more insulin to get sugar into the resistant cells. This cycle creates weight gain, insulin sensitivity and ultimately diabetes. Obesity and diabetes rates are 50% lower in breakfast eaters than in non-breakfast eaters.

10. Set a good example for you kids

If your kids see you skipping breakfast, more than likely they will too.  Set a good example for your kids and start your day with a nutritious breakfast and share with them why they should eat breakfast too.

Why do we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? A good excuse to throw a party!

My middle son asked me on Tuesday, “Why do we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?” I’ll be honest, it was one of those moments when I didn’t have an answer so I told him to “google” it.  I’m not sure if he ever did, but I did.  Do you know why we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? For me, it’s always been one of those holidays you celebrate by wearing green, eating green food, drinking green beverages and decorating with green shamrocks.  Here is what I discovered about St. Patrick’s Day, it’s a global celebration of Irish culture on or around March 17. It particularly remembers St. Patrick,  one of Ireland’s patron saints, who ministered Christianity in Ireland in the fifth century. I’d say that’s a good enough reason to party!

Treat bags for the kids…skittles, rolos and a pack of green gum.

Every year, I throw a Valentine’s Party for my kiddos just like my Mom  used to do for us when my sister and I were little.  Some where along the way, I started throwing a St. Patrick’s Day party.  It started one year several years ago with a few leprechaun tricks, a leprechaun trap, and some rainbow candies with cold coins. Then I started making green food for dinner…green pancakes with sprinkles of course.  I also made sure there was green milk to drink.

As my kids get older, I know they won’t find these parties too exciting…we do them now mostly for my 6 year old daughter and 9 year old son who still enjoys the fun! I think I enjoy them the most! Here are some pictures of the last minute fun I came up with this year for our party.  I was a little under the weather, so I’m surprised I was able to pull anything off.  Thank you Pinterest! All of these were inspired by Pinterest posts.

Shamrock shaped Rice Krispie treats with green sugar sprinkles.
Shamrock pretzels with a rolo and m & m middle. These were supposed to have sucker sticks in them but I didn’t have any.
Rainbow fruit with miniature marshmallows for clouds and rolos candies for the pot of gold.
Our cute party table.
My pot of gold…YUM!!

For dinner we had turkey sausage, Brussels sprouts, baked potatoes, mac n cheese & corn.  I tried to eliminate too much junk this year.  No cupcakes or cookies or cakes.  I think it all turned out pretty well considering this Mama was not on her best game that day.  Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? If so, I’d love to see what you do! Please share your comments, questions and suggestions below or email me at happycleanlife@gmail.com.

Have a happy healthy day!

My secret to living a happy life…

Happy March!! It’s hard to believe the winter months here in Indiana are almost behind us! I’m not a big fan of winter, however I really do love the changing seasons and the pretty white snow after a big snow storm is beautiful.  It’s just too cold and messy! 😉

Today I want to share with you something that is truly important to me and makes me who I am.  I was recently invited to be a part of a Christian blog talk radio show.  After much prayer and thought, I decided to go for it! Yes, my plate runneth over with far too many commitments and responsibilities, but I felt like this was not only a huge challenge for me that’s way out of my comfort zone but it’s also a great way to reach people who are seeking spiritual health as well as physical health and wellness.  So, I will be talking about my Christian journey along a path to better health and wellness.  Hopefully I can inspire a few people…at least that’s my plan!

Someone asked my husband recently if I was, “Always so happy!” This person is someone I have met in person only once but she sees my posts on social media.  I apparently exude happiness on Facebook which is awesome! Now, he told me that he told her that yes, my wife is always happy for the most part.  I have my moments…trust me! But he’s right! For the most part, I am a very happy person these days.  I haven’t always been happy and I’d say it’s been a struggle over the last 5 years or so.

You see, 5 years ago my family of 6 moved from the area where my husband and I grew up in Illinois to central Indiana which was 3 hours away.  We left behind our parents and siblings and of course friends, coworkers, neighbors and etc. for my husband to pursue a new career.  It wasn’t easy but yet it was something I was so excited about! I wasn’t happy living in our small rural community.  I was bored.  I was lonely.  I just needed more out of life.  We had a great small church community but this church was not “my type” of church.  Singing hymnal music just doesn’t get me as hyped up and happy as singing “I Will Follow You” by Chris Tomlin.  Anyway, back to our move…it was hardest on our family’s to see us move away because over the past 5 years, we’ve built ourselves a pretty amazing life.  We’ve struggled a lot! We’ve had financial burdens that we should never have had to deal with.  We’ve had family drama.  We’ve had disappointment and sadness.  We’ve had to make new friends and meet new people which has helped me get over my shyness a bit.  The best part about this move is that my husband and I really had to rely and lean on each other.  We also found a church home we love and our family is more centered around God.  I’ve found over the years that just when you think you can’t possibly take any more, God steps in and comforts you.  He’s always there for us.  He’s pushed us to almost our breaking point but in doing so, he’s brought us closer to him.  We pray and we know He’s got our backs.  I think what helps me to remain so “happy” is that I’ve come to accept that everything happens for a reason and that God has a plan for me.  If something doesn’t go the way I hoped it would or thought it should, I know that it’s because He has a plan.  Everything always works out exactly as it’s supposed to.  I don’t worry or stress about stuff like I used to.  I also don’t get offended as easily as I used to.  I pray a lot and I’m thankful for all that God has given me.

We’ve been through some crazy stuff over the past 6 months.  Our home we were renting was hit my lightning which resulted in a fire.  At the time, we were looking to rent an apartment until the home we were building was finished.  The guy who owned the house we were renting had put our house up for sale so we were going to have to find a temporary place to live while our home was being built.  In the mean time, the entire process of fixing and repairing the rental we were in took way longer than it should have and we were able to stay there until our home was finished and we got to move in a week before Christmas.  It’s amazing how it all worked out!! It worked out exactly as God had planned for us.

My secret to living a happy life is simple, stop stressing and worrying about the things you have no control over.  Reach out to God and let him lead you where you are supposed to go.  He has a plan for your life.  You may struggle before you find peace.  You may think you can’t take anymore pain, disappointment, sadness, etc but you can and you will come out on top.  Trust that He has your back and that He will lead you on an amazing journey.  He never gives us more than we can handle.  Going through those tough times is what brings us closer to him.  Knowing that He has a plan for my life, makes me happy.  Knowing that I’m exactly where He wants me to be makes me happy.  Turn to God and just be happy with all that He’s blessed you with.

Have an amazing Tuesday!

10 Commandments for Busy Moms

10 Commandments for Busy Moms

I take my role as a Mom pretty seriously.  I always try to do the best for my family & make each day special.  I am big on making memories & giving my kiddos the best childhood I can.  I don’t try to be “perfect”.  I just try to be the best Mom I can be.  God gifted me with 4 amazing humans and they deserve my very best.  Now granted there have been many days that I have been stressed out and cranky but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that so many times we get upset and cranky about the stuff that just doesn’t really matter.

I keep adding more and more commitments these days.  Maybe because my kids are getting older and are more “self sufficient” I feel like I can devote more time to other things.  I don’t know what I’m thinking actually.  I’m so busy most days! I did tell my husband recently though, that I’m NOT going to complain about any of it though because I am the one who signed up for all that is going on in my life right now.  I could have said, “No”, but I chose be a part of everything that I’m involved in right now.  Sure there will be days when I’m stressed, tired, need to cry, and feeling very cranky but I will do my best to not take it out on my family…that’s what friends are for! Ha Ha 🙂

Seriously, though as Moms we tend to sometimes take on too much and we need to really take a step back and look at what’s really important and weed out the stuff that’s not.  We are all different and we all handle stress differently.  Some can handle a lot that gets thrown at them and some can’t handle very much at all.  Know your limits and learn to deal with the daily stresses of being a busy Mom.

Here are 10 Commandments that I will be printing and putting up in my office to remind myself of.  Some of these I REALLY need to work on.

10 Commandments for Busy Moms

I. Thou shalt not be perfect or even try to be.

Just be the best Mom you can be for your kids but that doesn’t mean you are “perfect”.  We all have our bad days.  Don’t stress about it and move on.

II. Thou shalt not try to be all things to all people.

You can not please everyone so don’t even try.  Do your best and help people to understand that you are one person.

III. Thou shalt sometimes leave things undone.

It’s ok to leave dishes in the sink and laundry piling up in the hamper.  It’s also ok to take a nap when you need it if you can.

IV. Thou shalt not spread thyself too thin.

Don’t over commit yourself.  Do what you can with the time you have.

V. Thou shalt learn to say “no”.

It’s ok to say “NO”.  Really it is! You CAN NOT do it all so learn what your limits are and what you can handle without stressing out too much.  Say “yes” to what’s really important!

VI. Thou shalt schedule time for thyself and for thy support network.

Make time for yourself.  Go get a mani or pedi.  Take time to read a book or enjoy a hobby.  Spend time with friends who lift you up.

VII. Thou shalt switch thyself off, and do nothing regularly.

Make sure you take time to do nothing.  Give yourself a break.  Your brain needs to turn off and recharge. (This one is a tough one for me!)

VIII. Thou shalt not even feel guilty for doing nothing, or saying no.

Nope! Don’t feel guilty for taking some time to do nothing or for saying no to something you really don’t want to do.  You deserve a break so enjoy it!

IX. Thou shalt be boring, untidy, inelegant, and unattractive at times.

It’s ok to stay in your yoga pants.  It’s ok to not do your hair or makeup (although I rarely go without makeup).  It’s okay to be lazy!

X. Thou shalt not be thine own worst enemy but be thine own best friend.

Love yourself! Love all your faults, your wrongs, your rights, your worst days and your best days.  You are human & don’t forget that!

“Must Have” Favorite Finds

(1) My first favorite find this week is Chocolate Greens.  I have 4 kiddos who don’t eat their daily fruits and veggies. Who am I kidding…neither do I unless I supplement! 😉 This is a great tasting (seriously just ask my kids) way for my kids to get the nutrients their little bodies need. We mix it in milk and it tastes just like chocolate milk. It’s made with 100% natural cocoa powder, contains more than 50 super foods and no sugar as it’s sweetened with Stevia leaf extract.  Keep the germs at bay by drinking this daily to give your body the nutrition it needs to perform at it’s very best! Even my pickiest eater loves it! I highly recommend this one!!

(2) my next favorite find this week is Kombucha Green Tea.  This tea not only tastes great but is also great for you. It has a blend of spearmint, lemongrass and plum flavors which come together in this light fruity tea. It’s 100% organic and non-gmo. This tea is great for supporting your immune system, supplying antioxidants and supports digestion. One of my favorite things about Yogi brand teas (besides the fact that they are organic and non-gmo) is the cute little inspirations they have on their tea bag tags. They just brighten anyone’s day!

(3) My last favorite find to share this week is Burt’s Bees Res Q Ointment. This stuff is amazing! Not only does is smell yummy (if you like lavender) but it’s great for so many skin ailments. You can use it on bug bites, burns, skin rashes, and much more. Its great for those winter chapped hands too. Just a little goes a long way so this little pot will last a long time.
